What if… technology creeps up on you?
So you don’t want to have anything to do with Twitter. Fine. If you don’t, someone else will.
Like many MDs and CEOs, you raise your eyes to the heavens whenever the bespectacled bod from your marketing team begins wittering on about social media and the importance of “engagement”. That’s your call. It just means that your competitors will get there before you.
You don’t like technology and all these virtual “conversations”, because they take you out of your comfort zone. You’re the boss: you can do what you like! Just remember the saying: if you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten.
Technology is moving so fast that you cannot plan your participation to the nth degree. So take a risk: take that plunge, and have the courage to work it out as you go along
You may be in the driving seat, but can you know what lies round the next bend?
Look on the bright side: thanks to those who have plunged in before you, you have an array of online resources at your disposal.

Great post and so true. People and companies are reticent about taking the plunge and dipping their toe in the social media world. Whether you like it or not this technology is here to stay and will grow in influence. These conversations are happening with our without, so it’s best to engaged and listen to what’s being said.
Great post, but it’s so much more. As CEOs all sorts of technology creeps up on us and takes us out of our comfort zone. Look at all the new technology coming out, not just the social media. Other things that have a real impact on our businesses – if we use them correctly. Web based collaborative applications, can revolutionise the way teams work. Email that all your employees can get to, even when they are not at work. Systems that can be accessed from mobile phones. Documents that you can get to wherever you are. Stop your IT team from cultivating servers – get them onto the interesting stuff……and that includes social media!
