What if…your business coach asked whether you’re an entrepreneur or a CEO?
As an experienced strategy consultant, I understand how vital knowing the answer to that question can be.
Which type of leader you are can make all the difference to the rate at which your business develops and grows. If you’re finding it hard to make the transition from entrepreneur to CEO/business builder, you may be holding the enterprise back.
If you’re not sure which of these labels applies to you now, here’s a self-assessment quiz to help you decide. Just pick the answer in each case that most closely reflects the way you operate.
- What’s your working style? Do you:
a) Operate on institution and gut feel or
b) Take a disciplined, considered approach?
- Are you:
a) Focused on output or
b) Process-driven?
- When it comes to sales
a) Is clinching the deal what drives you or
b) Are you focused on the bottom line?
- When hiring people, do you:
a) Rely on instinct or
b) Clear evidence of achievement
- To get things done, do you
a) Point and shout or
b) Ask for solutions
There are no right or wrong answers, but if most of your responses are a), you’re an entrepreneur, if the majority are b), you’re a CEO/business builder.
Many entrepreneurs I’ve worked with as their performance coach recognised there was a limit to their experience and ability. If they were unable or unwilling to make the transition, they hired a professional CEO to transform their enterprise into a high performing wealth creation machine.
