What if…your business delivered the life you want?

  • Do you constantly feel wiped out?
  • Have you had a break since Christmas?
  • Do you know what you want from your life?

As an executive coach I advocate that bosses achieve the often illusive work/life balance.

My expertise in business training has taught me to ensure the CEOs and MDs I coach have both a business strategy AND a ‘life strategy’.

Long weekends or a few days off are great for starters – but what I really recommend in my area of leadership coaching is that you take yourself off for a 2 day personal retreat.

When you are ensconced in an interruption-free stunning setting ask yourself the following?

1. What do I want to do before I die?”

No holds barred! Make a comprehensive ‘life list’ on day 1 and divide it into hobbies, travel, family etc. Sleep on it and complete it on day 2.

2. “What would I do if I only had 5 years to live?”

Be realistic on what is achievable and compile a shorter list from the one above.

3. “If I was going to die in six months time how would I spend that time?”

This one will really focus your mind!

4. “How much money will I need to complete each list?”

Take a long, hard look at your assets and liabilities from your business or personal life and your cash flow requirements. As a result you may want to reconsider what is practical to achieve in your ‘life list’ and your 5 year list.

This personal assessment is critical towards ensuring your business delivers the life you want rather than you living for your business. Successful entrepreneurs:

  1. Are happy in both work and life
  2. Possess a clear sense of self and direction
  3. Take regular breaks
